Freshlyground – New Album Available Now

Freshlyground. Everybody knows their name. Mostly everyone can hum at least one of their songs. And now, African Cream Music presents Freshlyground as you’ve never heard them before: a collection of their hits recorded live at gigs around the world and an incredible mix of previously unreleased tracks, recorded over the band’s 11- year career.

Fans are going to love it!

“This album captures the emotion, the passion and the energy of our live performances,” explains violinist KylaRose Smith adding, “our live concerts have always been at the bedrock of our popularity,” she says.

The seven-piece band, a household name, is inarguably one of the most successful bands ever to come out of this country.  Formed in 2002, their diversity and talent have resulted in worldwide acclaim. Besides a loyal local following, the band has made its very groovy mark internationally with worldwide tours. Their top-selling albums speak for themselves. The group performed with superstar Shakira at the 2010 World Cup Soccer tournament and are known far and wide for their contagious brand of afro-pop. The band’s fifth studio album Take Me to the Dance topped the US World ITunes chart when it was released.

Renowned for their energetic kick-ass live act, this special album showcases never heard before dynamic live performances of some of Freshlyground’s undeniably infectious hits like Doo Be Doo and Waka Waka.  Zolani Mahola’s instantly recognisable voice resonates even more when the crowds are going mad in the background. Kyla Rose Smith says, “these songs are very meaningful to us and I’m so happy that those who love our music will hear these tracks.”

The colourful pop art cover of the album was designed by award-winning team THB Disturbance from Durban. At their helm is Richard Hart, a celebrated artist now furthering his illustrious career in New York. He says, “It was an honour to work on the bands cover and produce something different, stylish and funky for them.”
